Melinda Garcia and Rene Govea Identified as Victims in Deadly Weber Road Crash

Corpus Christi, TX – Authorities have identified the two victims killed in Sunday morning’s fatal crash on Weber Road as 50-year-old Melinda Garcia and 45-year-old Rene Govea, according to the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The tragic collision occurred around 6:30 a.m. on September 14, 2025, near Tripoli Drive, involving a black Cadillac Escalade and a gray BMW.

Police say Garcia was a passenger in the Escalade, while Govea was driving the BMW. Investigators determined that the Escalade, traveling northbound, failed to yield while making a left turn, resulting in the southbound BMW striking it.

The violent crash caused all three people inside the Escalade to be ejected. The female driver and Garcia, who was the front-seat passenger, were rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Sadly, Garcia later died from her injuries. The back passenger, a male, survived with non-life-threatening injuries.

Govea, the BMW driver, was pronounced dead at the scene. His female passenger was transported to the hospital in serious condition.

According to the Corpus Christi Police Department, the driver of the Escalade is facing pending charges of Intoxication Manslaughter and Intoxication Assault.

The road was shut down for several hours as investigators examined the scene. Authorities confirmed the crash remains under active investigation.
