WILSON, N.C. — Two people are dead and another injured following a triple shooting Monday afternoon on Washington Street in Wilson. Police have charged Donta Maurice Chestnut, 39, founder of Our Wilson, a local nonprofit, with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the violence.
The victims have been identified as 44-year-old Natasha Latrice Sutton and 21-year-old Avantae Pender, both of Wilson. Tragically, they were pronounced dead at the scene after officers responded to multiple reports of gunfire shortly before 2:00 p.m.
A third victim, 37-year-old Tiffany Fogg, also of Wilson, survived the shooting and was transported to Wilson Medical Center, where she is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say the gunfire erupted in the 900 block of Washington Street in broad daylight, shocking neighbors and rattling the community. Chestnut, once known for his work in mentorship and youth outreach through Our Wilson, is now facing serious charges as investigators continue to search for a motive.
Authorities are urging anyone with additional information about the shooting to contact the Wilson Police Department.
