Couple Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide at College Station Car Wash; Victim Identified as Katiusca Guedez De Cotiz

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Authorities have identified 40-year-old Katiusca Guedez De Cotiz as the victim of a fatal shooting Tuesday morning at a College Station car wash, in what police are calling a murder-suicide involving her estranged husband.

The College Station Police Department said multiple 911 calls were received just before 9 a.m. on September 16, reporting gunshots near Longmire Drive and Deacon Drive. Responding officers and emergency crews found Katiusca and her husband, 43-year-old Wirmer Jose Cotiz Escobar, unresponsive inside a bay at Wings Carwash & Washateria, 1801 Deacon Drive. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said surveillance footage revealed that Katiusca had been washing her vehicle when Escobar approached her. She tried to defend herself by spraying him with the pressure washer, but he shot her before turning the gun on himself.

Police later confirmed the two were married but separated, and that there had been prior incidents involving the couple. Detectives stressed that this was an isolated event and that the community is not at risk.

The College Station Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division and Crime Scene Technicians collected witness statements, reviewed surveillance footage, and processed evidence at the scene.

In a statement, CSPD reaffirmed its commitment to addressing domestic violence cases:

“The College Station Police Department remains committed to protecting and serving all residents and victims of crime. Domestic violence cases are taken seriously, and any prior reports involving this couple will be thoroughly investigated by detectives.”

Authorities encouraged anyone in a domestic violence situation to reach out for help, reminding the community: “Help is available, and you are not alone.”
