HOUSTON, Texas — The body of 20-year-old Jade McKissic, a University of Houston student who had been missing for five days, was recovered from Brays Bayou on Monday, September 15, according to the Houston Police Department.
Authorities confirmed that McKissic’s body was pulled from the water near Spur 5 South, less than a mile from the UH campus. She had last been seen on September 10 leaving LA Burgers and Daiquiris on North MacGregor Way near Scott Street in the Third Ward.
Family members say the discovery has left them devastated. “It was a total shock,” one relative told KHOU 11, adding that investigators have not yet shared many details with the family.
Known to her loved ones as “Sage,” McKissic was described as a bright student and active member of her community. She worked as a desk assistant on campus, was part of the student orientation team, and participated in both church and school groups.
The Houston Police Department confirmed that an autopsy is being conducted to determine her cause of death.
The University of Houston community has begun sharing condolences and tributes, remembering McKissic as a kind, dedicated, and uplifting presence on campus.
