Christine Martinez and Jesus Hernandez Identified in Suspected Murder-Suicide in Brusly

BRUSLY, La. — Authorities in West Baton Rouge Parish are investigating a suspected murder-suicide after two people were found dead inside a mobile home on South River Road Tuesday morning, September 16, 2025.

The victims have been identified as Christine Martinez, 21, and Jesus Hernandez, 19.

Deputies with the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office responded around 9:30 a.m. after a family member discovered the bodies inside Martinez’s residence. Evidence at the scene indicates Hernandez fatally shot Martinez before turning the gun on himself.

Investigators say Martinez lived in the mobile home where the tragedy occurred, while Hernandez lived nearby in the same trailer park. Officials noted the two were neighbors, but there is currently no indication of a romantic relationship between them.

Christine Martinez is being remembered as a devoted young mother and a graduate of Baton Rouge Community College. She leaves behind one child, whose care and well-being are now at the center of her grieving family’s focus.

Jesus Hernandez was a graduate of Brusly High School. Authorities have not released further details regarding his connection to Martinez or a potential motive.

The Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation. Meanwhile, the Brusly community is left mourning the loss and calling for stronger mental health and domestic violence prevention resources to help prevent future tragedies.
