NORTH CODORUS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — York County and the nation are mourning a devastating attack on law enforcement that left three officers dead and two others critically injured on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
The suspect, Shawn Zumbrum, was associated with the residence at 1879 Harr Road in Spring Grove, where the violence unfolded. Authorities say a multi-agency team of law enforcement officers arrived at the property around 2:10 p.m. to serve a warrant related to a domestic violence incident involving Zumbrum.
As officers approached, Zumbrum reportedly opened fire, striking multiple officers. The confrontation ended when Zumbrum died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The three officers killed were serving their community with the York County Sheriff’s Office, Pennsylvania State Police, and other local agencies. Two additional officers were airlifted to regional trauma centers, including WellSpan York Hospital, and remain in critical condition. Their bravery in the line of duty underscores the extreme risks officers face every day.
Authorities emphasize that the investigation is ongoing. The Pennsylvania State Police are leading the probe, with support from the York County Office of Emergency Management and other local agencies, as they reconstruct the events and examine the circumstances surrounding the warrant and shooting.
