HARFORD COUNTY, Md – The Harford County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is investigating a deadly crash involving two passenger vehicles and a Harford County Public School bus on Thursday afternoon.
Shortly after 2 p.m., deputies, along with allied law enforcement agencies, Harford County Department of Emergency Services, and local fire companies, responded to the intersection of Route 543 and Crescent Knoll Drive.
According to preliminary findings, a northbound vehicle on Route 543 had properly stopped to make a left turn when it was struck from behind by another vehicle. The impact forced the stopped car into the path of a southbound school bus.
The driver of the struck vehicle, a 17-year-old male, sustained serious injuries and was flown to a trauma center. His passenger, a 16-year-old female, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the striking vehicle, a 39-year-old male, was not injured. The school bus remained at the scene, and while no major injuries were reported among the students, six were transported to a local hospital as a precaution. All remaining students were safely transferred to another bus.
The HCSO Traffic Unit continues to investigate the crash. Officials expressed condolences to the victims’ families, especially to those mourning the loss of their loved one.
