COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man identified by family as Drayvoe Blood, described by loved ones as a devoted father and loyal friend, was shot by a Columbus police officer Friday after allegedly fleeing from a traffic stop in southeast Columbus.
The incident occurred in the 1400 block of Burstock Road, where officers attempted to stop Blood’s vehicle. According to Sgt. James Fuqua, Blood refused to pull over and later exited his car. Police say he allegedly pointed a gun at officers during the encounter.
One officer fired, striking Blood. He was transported from the scene and is expected to survive his injuries. Officials confirmed that no officers were injured in the incident, and there was no evidence that Blood fired at police.
Sgt. Fuqua emphasized the importance of compliance during traffic stops, stating:
“When you are in a traffic stop and an officer pulls you over, stay in that vehicle and listen to commands. This situation could have easily been avoided.”
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) has taken over the case, which is standard protocol in officer-involved shootings.
No additional details have been released at this time.
