In Loving Memory of Sergeant Nigel K. Barnett

With profound sadness, we share the passing of Sergeant/Station Commander Nigel K. Barnett, 49, of Poughkeepsie, New York, who tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident on the Taconic State Parkway on September 16, 2025.

Sergeant Barnett was a 19-year veteran of the New York State Police, most recently serving as the Station Commander at State Police Cortlandt, Troop K. Throughout his distinguished career, he was known for his professionalism, leadership, and unwavering dedication to protecting and serving his community. His colleagues remember him not only as a respected officer but as a mentor, friend, and man of integrity.

Beyond the uniform, Sergeant Barnett was deeply loved by his family and friends. He carried himself with compassion and strength, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His sudden passing has left a profound void in both the law enforcement community and the lives of his loved ones.
