In Loving Memory of Faith Vandell Mitchell

It is with great sorrow that we share the untimely passing of Faith Vandell Mitchell, 23, of Chicago, Illinois, who tragically lost her life in a devastating collision early Sunday morning, September 21, 2024, on the Borman Expressway in Gary, Indiana.

At approximately 1:56 a.m., authorities responded to a horrific crash on Interstate 80/94 near Cline Avenue. The scene was marked by a severely damaged and charred vehicle off the roadway, near a bridge support column. In the aftermath of this tragedy, Faith’s family, in a heartbreaking moment, identified her by her tattoos, though official identification is pending DNA or dental confirmation.

Faith sustained numerous blunt-force and burn injuries as a result of the crash. The coroner’s office is conducting further examinations, and an autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.

Known for her infectious personality, warmth, and fierce loyalty to her loved ones, Faith leaves behind a legacy of love and strength. Though her time with us was far too short, the impact she made on the lives of those around her will never be forgotten. Faith’s light, compassion, and spirit touched many, and she will be missed deeply by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
