It is with deep sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Kjersten Aileen-Hermance Strang, 38, of Gulfport, Florida, who was taken from us on September 20, 2025, in a heartbreaking hit-and-run collision.
At approximately 10:08 p.m., Kjersten was riding her electric bicycle southbound on 49th Street when she was struck by a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Xavier Omar Rigby. The impact caused Kjersten to be ejected from her bike and onto the windshield of the vehicle. In an act of utter disregard for human life, Rigby continued driving for several blocks before Kjersten was dislodged, leaving the scene without contacting emergency services or waiting for first responders.
Despite the efforts of authorities, Kjersten was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. She leaves behind a community of family, friends, and loved ones who are devastated by her loss. Kjersten was known for her kind heart, her love of life, and her unwavering commitment to those she cared for. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her.
A short time later, Rigby was located by the St. Petersburg Police Department. He was arrested and charged with Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Death, Vehicular Homicide, and DUI Manslaughter. Rigby’s actions that night have left a family in mourning, a community in shock, and a profound loss that words cannot fully express.
Kjersten’s passing serves as a tragic reminder of the importance of road safety, respect for others, and the consequences of reckless behavior. As the investigation continues, her family remains in our thoughts and prayers. May Kjersten’s spirit live on through the love and memories she shared with so many.
