In Loving Memory of Antonio McDonald

With heavy hearts, we mourn the loss of Antonio McDonald, a 39-year-old Durham resident whose life was tragically taken on the morning of Tuesday, September 23, 2025, in a shooting on Capps Street in South Durham.

Just before 10 a.m., Durham police responded to reports of a shooting near S. Alston Avenue. When they arrived, they found Antonio with gunshot wounds outside a home. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

What followed was a community left shaken, a family left broken, and many questions still unanswered. A suspect has since been detained, and the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities believe this to be an isolated incident.

But beyond the headlines and crime scene tape, Antonio was more than a name in the news. He was a son, a friend, a neighbor, and someone who mattered deeply to those who knew and loved him. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, and his memory will forever be etched in the hearts of all who were touched by his presence.

Those close to Antonio describe him as someone who carried both strength and quiet humility. He was a man of resilience, navigating life’s challenges with a determination that inspired others. Whether offering a helping hand or sharing a moment of laughter, Antonio’s presence brought light to those around him.

As his loved ones begin the painful journey of grief, we come together in remembrance and reflection—honoring not just how Antonio died, but how he lived.

Let us hold tight to the memories, the shared stories, the love, and the laughter. And let us commit ourselves to seeking peace and justice, so that no other family must endure such pain.

Rest in peace, Antonio.

Your life mattered. You will not be forgotten.
