Raja Drain Arrested for Murder of 2-Year-Old Daughter, Jamie Drain

BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. – Authorities say 28-year-old Raja Drain has been arrested in Connecticut and charged in the death of her 2-year-old daughter, Jamie Drain, whose passing in Bertie County has now been ruled a homicide.

Arrest in Connecticut

On Monday evening, Wethersfield Police responded to a domestic disturbance at a home in Connecticut. While investigating, officers ran Drain’s name and discovered a murder warrant issued in North Carolina. She was taken into custody immediately.

Raja Drain has since been indicted on first-degree murder and felony child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury. She is being held on a $2 million bond in Connecticut while awaiting extradition to North Carolina.

The Death of Jamie

The tragic case stems from December 2, 2024, when deputies found 2-year-old Jamie Drain unresponsive at a home on Jack Branch Road near Lewiston Woodville.

Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin confirmed what investigators feared:

“Jamie Drain died at the hands of her mother.”

According to the autopsy, Jamie suffered blunt force trauma to the head, with extensive scalp and facial bruising as well as brain hemorrhages. These injuries were inconsistent with Raja’s claim that her daughter simply fell while eating in the kitchen.

Officials determined that Raja was the only adult present at the time of Jamie’s fatal injuries.

A Troubling Past

Court records show that Jamie had previously been placed in DSS custody during an earlier child abuse case but was later returned to her mother. The revelation has raised urgent questions about child protection oversight in North Carolina.
