It is with deep sadness that we share the tragic passing of Peyton Hughes, 21, of Campbellsville University, whose life was cut short while doing something he loved fishing on Toledo Bend Reservoir.
Peyton went missing Wednesday evening during pre-fishing for a Bassmaster Kayak Series event. After an extensive search by law enforcement and volunteers from both Texas and Louisiana, his body was recovered Friday morning near Alligator Cove, close to where his kayak had been found.
Peyton was more than a student and athlete — he was a son, a friend, a teammate, and a young man full of promise. He poured his heart into his passions and was admired for his dedication, quiet strength, and kind spirit. His love for fishing was more than a hobby; it reflected his appreciation for the peace of nature and the joy of competition.
The Campbellsville University family, along with his loved ones, are heartbroken by this loss. Peyton’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him best — his family, friends, coaches, and teammates, who will forever cherish the light and laughter he brought into their lives.
May his soul rest in peace, and may his family find strength and comfort in this most difficult time.
