JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man in his late 20s was killed Friday night after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Phillips Highway near Clinton Avenue, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
The crash happened at approximately 8:30 p.m. when the pedestrian attempted to cross the roadway eastbound and was hit by a GMC Yukon. Jacksonville Fire Rescue responded to the scene and pronounced the man deceased.
Authorities said this incident marks the 118th traffic fatality in Duval County this year and the 24th involving a pedestrian.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
