ROME, Ga. — Two residents of Rome, Lamont Cornett, 62, and Rhonda Cornett, 60, tragically died in a multi-vehicle crash on North Broad Street Saturday morning.
According to authorities, a white SUV traveling north at a high rate of speed first struck another vehicle near North Rome Church of God. The SUV continued before colliding with a white Hyundai SUV driven by Rhonda Cornett, who was stopped at a red light on North Avenue.
Floyd County Coroner Jodan Pierson pronounced both Lamont and Rhonda Cornett dead at the scene.
The driver of the white SUV was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police are investigating the incident and have not yet released the identity of the driver. Charges are pending.
