It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John P. Shellito, 59, of Union City, Pennsylvania, who tragically lost his life on the morning of Saturday, September 20, 2025, following a motorcycle crash at the intersection of North Main and East High Streets in Union City.
At approximately 8:19 a.m., John was riding his 2020 RPS Hawk DLX 250 motorcycle northbound on Route 8 when a 2023 Ford pickup truck, driven by another motorist, turned left into his path while attempting to enter Route 6. Despite efforts to avoid the collision, John’s motorcycle struck the truck’s driver-side mirror, causing him to be thrown from the bike. He came to rest on the east sidewalk of Route 8 and was quickly transported by Union City Fire Department EMS to UPMC Hamot in Erie, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
John was a beloved member of the Union City community — a man known for his kind heart, steady presence, and deep appreciation for the freedom of the open road. He was a friend, a neighbor, and someone who always had a story to share and time to listen. His passion for motorcycles reflected his free spirit and love for life’s simple joys.
John’s passing is not only a tremendous loss to his family and friends but also to the community that knew and respected him. His memory will live on through the lives he touched and the legacy of compassion and authenticity he leaves behind.
As the Pennsylvania State Police in Corry continue their investigation, our focus remains on honoring John’s life and supporting those who are grieving this unexpected and heartbreaking loss.
May John rest in peace, and may his loved ones find strength in the memories they shared with him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
