COLUMBUS, Ga. — A shooting outside an Amazon warehouse in East Columbus ended in tragedy early Monday morning after the suspected gunman, 22-year-old Myles Belyue, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities confirmed.
Columbus Division of Police responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting an active shooter at approximately 4:30 a.m. in the 5800 block of Osceola Court. Investigators say Belyue was outside the facility, firing multiple rounds at the building while employees were inside.
Police arrived on scene around 4:47 a.m., confronted the suspect, and a brief standoff ensued. Shortly afterward, Belyue reportedly took his own life before officers could make an arrest.
No employees were injured during the incident, although several rounds struck the warehouse. By late Monday morning, reporters noted nearly a dozen visible bullet holes in the facility’s front windows.
Authorities confirmed that Belyue was a former employee of the Amazon facility who had been terminated earlier this month. The Columbus Division of Police, with support from other law enforcement agencies, continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Officials have not released a potential motive.
The incident has left the East Columbus community shaken, though thankfully no workers were harmed during the attack.
