Grenada, Miss. – The Grenada community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Ayden Reno, a 16-year-old student-athlete at Grenada High School, whose body was discovered late Monday night.
According to Grenada Police Chief George Douglas, officers found Reno’s body in a brushy, overgrown area near Honeytown Park in the 700 block of Leigh Avenue around 11:41 p.m. on September 22. Grenada County Coroner Douglas “Little Bobby” Yates pronounced him deceased at 12:25 a.m. Tuesday, September 23. Reno’s body has been transported to the Mississippi State Crime Lab for autopsy, with results pending. Investigators have not yet confirmed whether his death was the result of gunfire, though calls of shots fired were reported in the area earlier that evening.
Reno was a junior at Grenada High School, where he proudly wore No. 27 on the Chargers football team as a defensive back and was also a member of the Visions show choir. His death has left classmates, teammates, and teachers in shock.
“The Grenada School District is heartbroken to share the loss of one of our beloved students,” officials said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, classmates, and teachers who are grieving during this incredibly difficult time.”
Neighboring Kirk Academy also extended condolences, writing: “Our hearts go out to the GHS family as they mourn the loss of a student. We are lifting the entire school, their classmates, teachers, friends, and loved ones in our prayers during this difficult time.”
The investigation into Reno’s death remains ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Grenada Police Department at (662) 226-1211 or (662) 227-TIPS.
Ayden Reno will be remembered not only for his dedication on the football field but also for his vibrant spirit, kindness, and the joy he brought to those around him.
