In Loving Memory of Dante Hogans

It is with unimaginable sorrow that we remember the life of Dante Hogans, a 29-year-old husband, father, son, and friend who was tragically taken from this world during a mass shooting in Indianapolis on Sunday, September 21, 2025.

In the immediate aftermath of the tragedy, a heartbreaking error misidentified Dante as one of the suspects involved—a mistake that clouded the truth and delayed the compassion his grieving family deserved. That narrative was false. The truth is clear and undeniable: Dante was an innocent bystander, a victim of senseless violence, and a man whose life embodied peace, love, and devotion.

Earlier that evening, Dante did what he often did—he cared for his family. He made homemade pizzas and chocolate chip cookies for his wife, Keiona, and their 5-year-old son, Amir, before they settled in together to watch a movie. Those quiet, joyful moments—full of love and warmth—are the ones his family will carry in their hearts forever.

“He was gentle and caring,” Keiona shared. “He was the kind of man who worked hard all week and still came home with enough love to fill the entire house.”

Dante was employed as a warehouse operations specialist with Cardinal Health. After a full work week, he simply wanted a night out with friends. He never came home.

To know Dante was to know kindness. He was humble, family-centered, and grounded in his love for those closest to him. Whether he was helping his son build LEGO sets, cooking dinner, or checking in on his cousins and siblings, Dante gave his time and heart without hesitation.

He leaves behind a family broken by grief but bound forever by the love he gave them:

  • His beloved wife, Keiona Hogans,
  • His precious son, Amir,
  • His mother, siblings, extended family, and a community who mourns alongside them.

Dante’s death is a tragic reminder of the lives stolen in moments of violence—but more importantly, his life is a reminder of how deeply one person can love, and be loved.

In his honor, may we remember to cherish each other, speak truth in the face of injustice, and never forget the man who deserved so much more time. His memory will live on in every smile he gave, every meal he shared, and every life he touched.

Rest peacefully, Dante.

You were—and always will be—deeply loved.
