DALLAS, Texas – Authorities have identified the gunman in Wednesday’s deadly sniper attack outside a federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn.
The early morning ambush left four people dead, including Jahn, and raised urgent concerns over security at federal operations. Investigators discovered unspent cartridges engraved with “ANTI-ICE” near his body, pointing to a likely ideological motive.
The shooting began just before 6:40 a.m. on September 24, 2025, when Jahn took position on a rooftop overlooking the ICE facility along North Stemmons Freeway. He opened fire on an unmarked van transporting detainees.
Three detainees were struck. One died at the scene, another succumbed to injuries at a hospital, and a third remains in critical condition. The Department of Homeland Security later confirmed a second hospital death, bringing the total victim count to three.
As officers closed in, Jahn fatally shot himself. “The suspect is deceased,” Dallas Police confirmed, noting the investigation remains ongoing with assistance from the FBI and DHS.
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson is expected to speak at a press conference. Congressman Marc Veasey (D–TX) condemned the attack as “a senseless act of violence against vulnerable individuals.”
The incident has shaken the Dallas community and is being described by security experts as a “serious breach” that demands a thorough review of federal facility protections.
