Victims Identified in Midvale Murder-Suicide Investigation

MIDVALE, Utah — Authorities have released the identities of two individuals found dead in a suspected murder-suicide earlier this week in Midvale. According to the Unified Police Department, the victims have been identified as Eilleen Lyon, 65, and Terry Lyon, 63.

Police say they were called to conduct a welfare check at a residence near 7500 South Jefferson Street at approximately 11:13 a.m. on September 23, after an employer reported being unable to reach an employee who had missed work.

Upon arrival, officers noted that both vehicles were at the home, and the property appeared undisturbed with all doors and windows locked. After speaking with neighbors, friends, and co-workers, officers obtained a key and entered the residence, where they discovered the bodies of the two individuals.

Preliminary findings from the investigation indicate that Eilleen Lyon died from a gunshot wound, while Terry Lyon appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, leading investigators to believe the incident was a murder-suicide. There were no other individuals present in the home at the time.

The Unified Police Department confirmed that there was no prior history of domestic violence at the residence and that there is no threat to the public.

Detectives from the department’s Violent Crimes Unit and Forensics Unit conducted a detailed investigation at the scene and are working closely with the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner to confirm additional findings. Investigators are also speaking with individuals close to the victims to better understand the circumstances leading up to the incident.

“This is a heartbreaking situation, and our thoughts are with the family, friends, and co-workers affected by this tragedy. We are committed to conducting a thorough investigation to provide answers and closure,” the Unified Police Department said in a statement.
