Brooklyn Crash Leaves Community Mourning Arturo Alberto Baez Cordero

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Arturo Alberto Baez Cordero, 34, of New Jersey, who tragically lost his life in a fiery three-car crash in Brooklyn’s Gowanus neighborhood on Sunday evening, September 14, 2025.

The accident occurred just after 6:30 p.m. at the busy intersection of 2nd Avenue and 9th Street, when a Honda Odyssey traveling northbound struck a Mercedes-Benz, causing it to collide with a Dodge. The collision sparked a fire that engulfed one of the vehicles and drew a massive emergency response. Despite the heroic efforts of FDNY firefighters and medical personnel, Arturo succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital.

Arturo was known by family and friends as a devoted son, caring friend, and a man whose presence brought warmth to those around him. His sudden and tragic passing has left an unfillable void for all who knew him, and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of loved ones.

Several others were injured in the crash, including the driver of the Honda Odyssey and her passengers, as well as the Dodge driver. Authorities continue to investigate the incident to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the collision.

While this tragedy highlights the dangers present on busy city streets, it also serves as a reminder of the quick and courageous response of first responders who worked tirelessly to rescue those in harm’s way.

Arturo Alberto Baez Cordero’s life, though cut short, touched many. He will be remembered for his kindness, his spirit, and the love he shared with family and friends. May he rest in eternal peace.
