Buchanan County, VA — We are saddened to share the passing of 71-year-old James F. Ratliff, who tragically lost his life in a single-vehicle crash on the evening of September 16, 2025. The crash occurred around 8:15 p.m. in the 1600 block of Riverside Drive (Route 460).
According to the Virginia State Police, Mr. Ratliff was driving a 2006 Chevy HHR eastbound when the vehicle ran off the left side of the road and overturned. Sadly, Mr. Ratliff was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities confirmed that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The incident remains under investigation as law enforcement continues to review the circumstances surrounding the accident.
James F. Ratliff’s passing is a heartbreaking loss for his family, friends, and the Buchanan County community. In this time of sorrow, we offer our deepest condolences to those who knew and loved him. May his memory live on through the stories, love, and legacy he leaves behind.
