The Milwaukee community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Deon “Mister” Sargent, an 11-year-old boy whose light touched everyone around him. Known for his infectious smile, boundless energy, and love of dancing, Deon brought joy to his family, friends, teammates, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
At family gatherings, Deon was the one who made everyone laugh and smile. “He’s the one we call at the family gatherings, at the barbecues, at whatever event we at. He’s going to dance,” said his cousin, Canience Haynes. His TikTok dance videos captured the fun, playful spirit that he carried everywhere he went.
Deon was not only a bright light at home but also on the football field. Playing for the CLE Panthers Youth Football team, he quickly became a leader. Coaches recall his passion, determination, and ability to motivate his teammates. “He was a team leader. One of my team captains his first year, and he motivated the whole team the whole time,” said coach Corey Collins. Another coach, Derricka Wesley, added, “He just always wanted to show up and show out. He was that type of kid, and he is going to be missed dearly.”
Though his life was cut tragically short, Deon’s memory will live on through the laughter he brought, the love he shared, and the inspiration he gave to his teammates and family. His short years were filled with moments of joy that will be cherished forever.
Deon’s passing is a devastating reminder of how precious life is and how deeply gun violence impacts families and communities. His family, already enduring the pain of recent loss, is once again facing unimaginable grief. Yet, they find strength in remembering the boy who danced through life with courage and joy.
Deon “Mister” Sargent will forever be remembered as a son, brother, cousin, teammate, and friend whose presence brought warmth to every room. His spirit lives on in the hearts of all who loved him.
