CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Four men have been arrested and charged in connection with the tragic shooting death of 4-year-old Jayce Edwards during a drive-by shooting in southwest Charlotte earlier this week, police announced.
On Wednesday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) confirmed that Jordon Davis, 23; Marquise Geurrier, 24; and Angelo Hudson, 20, all of Charlotte, were taken into custody following a pursuit and standoff. Each was charged with murder.
On Thursday, detectives also arrested Anthony Abel, 18, charging him with first-degree murder. Authorities say the four men are linked to the fatal gunfire that erupted on Cigar Street, where bullets ripped into a home and killed young Jayce.
Arrests After Pursuit and Standoff
Investigators determined that the suspects were traveling in stolen vehicles, including one spotted at a Mecklenburg County gas station. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver refused, sparking a chase.
The pursuit ended near Rivergate Parkway, just 10 minutes from where Jayce was killed. The suspects abandoned the vehicle and tried to run before being captured. Officers later converged on a home along Duval Street, where sources say a standoff also took place before the situation was resolved.
CMPD officials revealed that the group is accused of stealing several vehicles across Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, and York counties. More arrests and charges could follow as the investigation develops.
Community in Mourning
The senseless death of 4-year-old Jayce Edwards has shaken the Charlotte community. Neighbors and family members described the boy as full of life and joy, now taken from them far too soon.
“This child’s life was stolen in an act of reckless violence that never should have happened,” said a CMPD spokesperson. “We will not stop until everyone responsible is held accountable.”
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities say the investigation is far from over. CMPD plans to release additional updates as detectives continue gathering evidence and piecing together the events that led to Jayce’s death.
This remains a developing story.
