Honoring the Fallen: Three Officers Killed in York County Ambush

NORTH CODORUS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Pennsylvania State Police confirmed that five officers were shot Wednesday afternoon while attempting to serve a warrant at a rural property in York County. Three officers lost their lives in the line of duty, while two others remain in critical but stable condition at WellSpan York Hospital.

At a press briefing Thursday, York County District Attorney Tim Barker identified the gunman as 24-year-old Matthew J. Ruth, but stressed that the focus must remain on the officers and their grieving families. “These men gave everything for their community. We honor them, not the violence that took them,” Barker said.

The Northern York County Regional Police Department (NYCRPD) released the names of the fallen heroes:

  • Detective Sergeant Cody Becker
  • Detective Isaiah Emenheiser
  • Detective Mark Baker

A fourth NYCRPD officer was among those critically wounded.

In a solemn statement, NYCRPD said:

“We ask our community to hold these officers, their families, and their colleagues in your hearts. This department is devastated, but we stand united in their memory.”

American flags were lowered across York County, and processions of emergency vehicles escorted the officers to the coroner’s office as residents lined the streets to pay their respects. Neighboring law enforcement agencies are assisting with municipal calls while NYCRPD grieves this unimaginable loss.
