With deep sorrow and heavy hearts, we remember the life of Guy Smith III, a beloved 75-year-old resident of Lake Charles, Louisiana, who tragically passed away on the morning of September 18, 2025, after being struck by a vehicle in downtown Lake Charles.
The incident occurred just before 7 a.m. in front of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, a place of peace and reflection—fitting for a man remembered for his quiet dignity and warm heart. First responders from the Lake Charles Police Department attempted life-saving measures on the scene before Guy was transported to a local hospital, where he sadly passed away from his injuries.
The driver involved in the accident remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with investigators. At this time, the investigation is ongoing, and the community is asked to come forward with any information that may assist.
Guy Smith III was more than a name in a headline. He was a father, grandfather, friend, and neighbor—someone who left a lasting mark on those who had the privilege of knowing him. His wisdom, kindness, and gentle presence will be missed dearly by all who loved him.
“Though we mourn the loss of Guy, we celebrate the grace and humility with which he lived. His spirit will forever walk with us, reminding us to be kind, be patient, and cherish each day.”
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Smith family during this time of heartbreaking loss. May you find strength in your memories and comfort in the love that surrounds you.
Rest in peace, Guy Smith III.
